In a few days, I will reach another milestone birthday-50years old!!!! It is still amazing for me to think that I am the same “little girl” who was afraid to turn 13 because in my mind teenagers had so many problems. Wow! Where did the time go? A lot has changed over time. My hair is getting grayer and thinner, now it is even starting to appear on my chin! I am now the proud owner of about 6 different pairs of reading glasses, to match my color palette of course! Yet, amazingly enough, I still can never find them when I need them! My body is starting to get a little……oh well you get the message. Creating a life with style after 40 and beyond is worth the time and effort when the goal is to become ageless and authentic.
Yves Saint Laurent said, “Fashion fades, but style is eternal.” Although many things may change and shift in our lives, our sense of style can continue to become more refined, empowering us to bring beauty into being forever. However, the key is to be true to being the best you. It has also been said that, “Style is just the outside of content and content the inside of style, like the outside and inside of the human body –both go together, they can’t be separated.” As women, let’s make sure that our lifestyle aligns completely from the inside out. Let who we are on the inside be reflected on the outside-gracefully, tastefully and beautifully-don’t separate the two. Here are some quick tips to creating a life that is lived gracefully with a style that is ageless and authentic:
Go on a beauty search daily. Make it a point to wake up and choose to see beauty around you. Take a look at nature, people, art etc. Find a special notebook and record your discoveries. Be specific. Be positive. Even difficult and unappealing situations can become beautiful, even if it takes a little time to see it. I believe that beauty is all around you but sometimes it take special eyes to see it.
Make affirmations a habit. Daily speak words of affirmation about yourself. Start with the things that you appreciate about your look, life and new transitions. Here are a few to get you started:
- I am proud of my body
- Every day in every way I am getting better
- I am capable of creating greatness
- I love my hair
- I love my smile
Build a wardrobe that is ageless. Avoid trying to be overly trendy. The goal is to create a wardrobe that is cost effective which empowers you to be at your best at all times. Ask yourself, “How does this outfit make me feel?” Life is too short to settle for feeling anything less than beautiful. Invest wisely. Choose staple pieces that are versatile, classic and timeless such as:
- A classic Trench coat
- A black dress
- A suit
- A wrap dress
- A denim jacket
Add a few trendy pieces, but do so sparingly without breaking the budget.
That’s enough for now. Try these on…..see if it fits! Take baby steps. If you don’t mind share your progress here. Stay tuned more to come.
