A new year is always a great time to reset and reload! No matter what type of job you are currently working or choose to pursue, from a visual brand perspective, wearing the right clothing is key to your success.  To gain the respect you deserve, your core message should always be reflected visually. You can begin creating the right look from your closet, so that you look remarkable at all times, especially at work. Boldly dress yourself so that your brilliance shines, from the inside out, in a way that is worthy of the remark!

Here’s the good news: you don’t have to break the bank to do this. This year, join the movement to shop from your closet and reinvent what you already own, or strategically make purchases allowing your clothes to speak well of you and your personal brand as the complete leader!

Here are some quick tips to get started:

1.  Repurpose Your Clothes

Take a new look at your clothes. Is there something in your closet that you’ve been saving “for such a time as this” that could be brought into the forefront by adding the right accessories?

What about that jacket that you have never worn? Jackets are anchor pieces that can help create an established, polished, sophisticated, and even fun look when paired with the right print blouse, dress pants, or skirt. That same jacket may be worn with a shirt or turtleneck and jeans paired with an embellished belt, a pair of booties, and a statement necklace to make a fun weekend outfit.

Key: A great fitting jacket or blazer is a “power” piece.  Make sure you have the perfect fit for your body type.

2.   Wardrobe Essentials

Every branded style wardrobe must begin with key pieces in order to build a solid foundation. Here are a few “must haves” to create a “killer” look, off the rack, that speaks well of your personal brand:

  • A cardigan
  • A jacket
  • 3 pairs of trousers
  • 2 pairs of pumps
  • Pair of boots
  • A pair of flats (sensible shoes for walking and driving)
  • A trench coat
  • Wrap and Sheath Dresses
  • An LBD (Little Black Dress)
  • A pencil or A-line Skirt
  • A sharp white or off-white button-down shirt

3.   Get Cash Back

This is the perfect time to go through your closet and edit what you’re not wearing or don’t particularly love. Do you have some items that still have price tags on them? Take an honest look at them. Perhaps they no longer fit your brand message.  Get some cash back; take them to a local consignment shop or resale boutique and recoup some of the financial loss.  Or, sell your items at online stores like eBay. Removing these items from your closet will make room for those new purchases that you LOVE!

Key: Avoid the temptation to buy on your way out of the door! Wait until April, which tends to be one of the best months to shop at resale boutiques because this is the time most women typically do their Spring cleaning!

We’ll stop here.  Don’t worry, more “Style Cents” tips to come next week.  If you have some ideas, please share them here. Also, if you have found these tips to be helpful, let us know!  Lastly, because it is our goal to build a community of complete leaders please share the love by passing this post to your friends.

Until next time……Be Bold, Beautiful, Brilliant, and Remarkable!
